Managing self

This competency is associated with self-motivation, a “can-do” attitude, and with students seeing themselves as capable learners. It is integral to self-assessment.

Students who manage themselves are enterprising, resourceful, reliable, and resilient. They establish personal goals, make plans, manage projects, and set high standards. They have strategies for meeting challenges. They know when to lead, when to follow, and when and how to act independently.

HB Pukeko (Gina/Mel) Maths Problem Solving T2 2020

Each Wednesday this term we will be working as a whole HB on problem solving in maths. This term we will focus on Statistics.

Our problem solving will focus on STEAM, strand maths (Geometry, Measurement, Statistics) and working together.
Activities will largely be based around our integrated literacy focus for the week and will include lots of hands on activities including designing and making. We will also endeavour to use this time to do some real world problem solving and get out in the city to make maths real.

Piwakawaka Term 1 2020 Tools for Learning

Given that many learners in HB Piwakawaka have started school this year and are completely unfamiliar with the tools we use to support our learning, we will use our Tools for Learning sessions to learn how to use Seesaw.

Session 1 - Using Seesaw, taking a photo and posting to student journals.

Session 2 - Adding a voice comment to a photo post.

Session 3 - Making a video post.

Session 4 - Finding and using assigned activities: Label the Parts of a Flower - using the label/typing tool.

T1 2020 Visual Art & Drama- Ruru

Beth's and Melva's HB will be focusing on Visual Art and Drama this term.

VISUAL ART: Drawing and sketching
- Explore a variety of materials and tools and discover elements and selected principles.
- Investigate and develop visual ideas in response to a variety of motivations, observation, and imagination.

We will explore different kinds of mark making and shading. We will create a drawing based on a live drawing lesson.

We will be creating artwork to express our identities as an HB- self portraits, identity cubes, book corner, HB waka.

Term 2 2020-Stage 5/6 Level 2 - Groups Purple & Green

This programme will be provided through Maths Buddy while students are learning at home due to the pandemic. Extra activities may be provided on Seesaw for topics that are not covered by Maths Buddy.

Students will participate in online workshops where they will develop the strategies as outlined above.

Number Strategies:
 Use a range of additive strategies and simple multiplicative strategies with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
