Welcome to Level 2 and 3 Physical Education.

Level 3
In the Level 3 course you will complete three Achievement Standards across 1.1 and 1.2. The first is working towards the Christchurch Half Marathon which is to be held on Queen's Birthday Weekend. Students will have the Thursday afternoon session to train for this and will also need to train in their own time. Alongside the Half Marathon we will review training programmes associated with this. You will draw on your NCEA Level 2 knowledge of training principles and methods and exercise physiology. And finally, the third Achievement Standard is analysing different psychological skills one can apply when training for a Half Marathon.

Students will need to bring appropriate sporting clothing for both sessions.

Level 2
In the Level 2 course you will complete three Achievement Standards across 1.1 and 1.2. The first is a practical assessment where you play sepaktakraw (a sport native to Southeast Asia where you 'kick' or 'smash' a ball over a net) and gain credits based on your tactical play. You will have the opportunity to be assessed for this again later in the year in a different sport. Alongside this is movement analysis where we will look at how functional anatomy, biomechanics, skill learning and psychology principles relate to a sporting context. This standard will be useful in nursing, first year Health Science, Physiotherapy and for anyone looking to head into the Health sector. And finally, the third Achievement Standard looks at what it takes to be involved in a team. You will work on your interpersonal skills within a team context. These skills include leadership, effective communication, inclusiveness and problem solving. This is an on-going assessment which will be due at the end of 2.2
