No man is an island, but an island is. Like Rapa Nui (Easter Island) there is much to learn from a contained environment with limited resources. History tells us much about the very real consequence of squandering our resources and modifying the environment. We will spend three weeks blocks exploring the stories of Angkor Wat, Incans rise and fall, and the tragic near total self-annihilation of the people of Easter Island. Along the way we will be drawing comparisons to early Maori practices and beliefs that stood them well against change in a limited landscape.
