Blue guided reading texts include some contexts and settings that are likely to be familiar but may be outside the student’s direct experience. Many high-frequency words are evident. Topic or interest words are likely to be in a student’s oral vocabulary and are strongly supported by illustrations and context.

Students continue to gain control of the reading process. They monitor their own reading, search for and use multiple sources of information, and self-correct errors. They recognise many high-frequency words automatically. They begin to read some sections of texts silently.

To Do List:
Stretch unfamiliar words using: blends, digraphs, chunks, rhyme and word endings.
Read High Frequency words quickly and make links to other words.
Read on ⥂ to gather more information so I can predict with some accuracy.
⥄ Re-read to self-monitor and selfcorrect errors.
Discuss the character, setting, problems and make more predictions.
Make the story more interesting by noticing more print conventions & using punctuation effectively.
Read the story fluently and with accurate phrasing.
