This course covers the fundamental skills required to be a geographer! We will be learning how to read and interpret maps. Think grid references, points of the compass, and map symbols as well as learning how to interpret maps showing geographic information. There will be opportunities to sketch precis maps, draw field sketches, and interpret photos and cartoons. A focus on statistics will enable us to use and construct graphs and tables to illustrate geographic information. Finally, and importantly, we will get to grips with the geographic concepts which run through the whole geography curriculum.

You will work towards either the level one or level two skills and concepts external exam which is worth four credits. In addition, numeracy credits can be gained with the level one paper and literacy credits with the level two paper. The course is also an excellent preparation for the geography research course, which students may wish to pursue next term.

You will need a calculator, coloured pencils and a ruler for this course.
