HB Waipapa 2022 T4 Inquiry - Art and Artists

We will find out about some of the significant artists and art movements that have influenced how we see our world, explore the styles and techniques they used to create their art works and experiment with making our own art works. There will be lots of opportunities for rich discussion as we consider what is art? Why do humans through time and across cultures feel the need to make it? What do people use art for? What are our own opinions about the different styles of art we see?
We will visit the Art Gallery for three learning sessions, and tap into our very own resident artist Alix Ashworth. With Alix we will explore making brushes, making our own paints, and working with clay.
We will investigate a range of art styles and movements, including the first found art made by humans preserved as cave art, the art of specific artists Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and Banksy, as well as look at the art movements Expressionism and Impressionism. As well as considering and discussing art from these contexts we will try our hand at making our own images using similar techniques and styles.
