Orienteering - the ultimate adventure
Do you like getting lost in nature and eventually finding yourself?
Do you always know which direction is north?
Do you know where you are on a map?
Do you like giving people directions?
If you like any of these silly yet useful things, you might like orienteering!
It's a sport (hundreds of people in Ōtautahi alone compete regularly), done individually or in teams, where one must navigate unfamiliar terrain and race to visit all of the checkpoints (called "controls", in orienteering lingo) marked on a map, in order.
We will go to different orienteering courses for the first few Fridays (Spencer Park, Halswell Quarry, Victoria Park), culminating in students designing their own orienteering courses in Hagley Park and racing each other on their custom-made courses.
