HB Waipapa 2022 T3 Maths - measurement exploration
We will start the term with an exploration of Measurement within the context of investigating Area, Volume and Capacity.
We will be ordering and comparing objects by area through direct comparison and/or counting whole numbers of units when we directly compare the area of 2 objects by superimposing and cover a shape with smaller shapes.
We will be creating and using appropriate units and devices to measure area when we recognise the need for a standard unit of area, measure surfaces using square centimetres and estimate the measure of surfaces using square centimetres in a variety of contexts.
We will order and compare objects volume and capacity by direct comparison and/or counting whole numbers of units when we compare the volume of two containers by packing or pouring, order the volume of three or more containers by packing or pouring and recognise that two matched amounts of liquid remain the same when one amount is poured into a container of a different shape.
We will create and use appropriate units and devices to measure volume and capacity when we use non-standard volume units (cups, spoons, bowls) to fill a container and count the number used, recognise the need for a standard unit of volume and measure to the nearest litre and half litre by using litre containers to fill and count.
We will be working as a HB group in these investigations.
