Nau mai, haere mai ki ngā tēina o Ao Tawhiti! If you are here, you have shown an interest in learning te reo Māori - pai rawa atu, that's awesome! In this course you can expect to learn about the language and its tikanga in an immersive, fun and practical way. We will be developing our confidence in communicating through games, quizzes, competitions, activities and whatever else we can dream up.

4MAO and 5MAO run in the same colour block and will work together as well as separately as appropriate.

If you are interested in taking this course, please take this quick survey so I can figure out how best to help you on your haerenga ako (learning journey).

Our unit focus this term is Te Kāinga & Te Akomanga ('At Home' and 'In the Classroom') and we will be learning to describe our home/classroom and give tours. We will also learn about words related to rooms of the house, talking about where things are, school subjects, common household and classroom items. We'll also learn some kapa haka and waiata, kīwaha (slang) and more!

Mā te rongo, ka mōhio
Mā te mōhio, ka mārama
Mā te mārama, ka mātau
Mā te mātau, ka ora.

Through our senses comes awareness,
Through awareness comes understanding,
Through understanding comes knowledge,
Through knowledge comes life and wellbeing
