PRE-REQUISITES
This course is designed to support students wanting to achieve music standards in NCEA at levels 2 and 3. Students sitting performance standards at level 2 NCEA at this level are expected to have been studying their instrument for at least 4 years, and have a secure understanding of music theory (to approximately a grade 3 equivalent or above).

WORKLOAD and EXPECTATIONS
The work load for this course will be fairly demanding, and students should consider this before joining the course. As well as attending classes, students will be expected to spend at least 7 hours per week practicing their instruments outside of school time, as well as spending at least one hour a week on self-directed music theory exercises, above and beyond the demands of NCEA assessment requirements. It's going to be fun.

INSTRUMENT and STATIONARY REQUIREMENTS
Unfortunately, Ao Tawhiti does not provide an instrumental hire program, so all students will need to provide their own musical instrument in order to take this course. You will also need:
A pad or book of Manuscript Paper
A device for accessing the internet and completing exercises on-line.
Pens and pencils.
A 40-leaf clear-file folder for music.
An A4 refill pad and folder

COURSE DESIGN
This course will involve a mix of LA-led and student directed learning experiences. Students will negotiate their own learning and assessment pathways at the start of the year, and each students' particular programme will reflect their own individual goals. A range of subjects from the level 2 and 3 NCEA music matrix will be available and assessed throughout the year.
