7ENG: The Future is a Nightmare
Course Overview

In this NCEA level 2 English class we will focus on a study of dystopian texts (that is, novels, short stories, films, and television shows that are set in a bleak or frightening future setting).
We will begin the year with a close reading of George Orwell's novel, 1984, and then in term two we will read some dystopian short stories, and finally we will watch some classic and contemporary dystopian films, short films, and television shows.
This class is suitable for students who are confident readers and who have a good understanding of essay writing. Some of the films and television shows we watch will be restricted to students 16 years or older, and class discussions will involve mature themes.
