In this course we will investigate the genetics behind inheritance and the importance of genetic variation in a species. We will learn about DNA and chromosomes and how these are copied and passed down to the next generation. We will answer questions like "How can two brown-eyed parents produce a blue-eyed child?" and "Why do you look a bit like your dad and a bit like your mum?"

This course will cover the work required to complete the external AS90948 (4 credits). If you are planning to continue on to level 7 biology then this standard is highly recommended.

Near the end of the term we will start the practical biology investigation internal AS90925 (4 credits). This assessment is worth 4 numeracy credits.
