HB Pōhutukawa Green Reading T4 2021
Ākonga will work in small, ability based groups. They will read with their LA 4 times per week, reading 2 texts at least twice in their reading workshops, along with reading the texts again at home.
Reading workshops will build on basic strategies for decoding and understanding text.
Green reading skills and strategies:
I can say or stretch unfamiliar words using: blends, digraphs, chunks, rhyme and word endings.
I can recognise high frequency words and make links to other words.
I can read on to gather more information so I can work out the word.
I can identify the error, and correct it.
I can talk about how I worked out the problem.
I can notice word endings, rhyme and letter clusters.
I can discuss characters, settings and problems and make predictions.
I can ask questions about new vocabulary and the story.
I can make the story more interesting more interesting by stressing words in bold print and using punctuation effectively.
I can read my story again fast and fluent.
I can say what strategies I have used.
