Science as art, art as science
Grand project: Each student will complete four panels, each panel being an artistic depiction of one of the 118 elements of the periodic table. The panels will be assembled into a giant, artistic interpretation of the periodic table and will be put on display in the unused rebar structure outside of the 2.8 lab!
Little bits of learning along the way:
- funny/sad/amazing stories of the history, people, and events associated with each element
- learning about the chemistry involved in art (such as the elements and molecules linked with various pigments and dye colours, and the science of detecting art forgeries)
- some practical chemistry to make art (such as growing bacteria colonies in patterns on agar plates)
There may be a cost for art materials.
