Minglish Level 3
In this level 3 course, students will study written and visual texts closely, then choose their own assessments from within Media and English (with a focus on NCEA level 2 and 3).
Students will be able to select their own English or Media Studies assessment to complete in the latter stages of the term, dependent on where their interests lie and what levels they are most likely to achieve. A list of Media Studies standards can be found here and English standards here.
If you haven't yet completed any standards at level 2 in Media Studies or English, then this course is probably not for you! But good news: I'm running a similar course in Green for level 2, and another in Red for level 1. Come see me if you have any questions about that :)
The texts we'll be looking at are ones which make comments on aspects of technology, and how they relate to society. We've already studied some Ted Chiang stuff (Liking What You See: A Documentary) in a fair bit of depth last term - this term, we'll look at some other types of texts which deal with technology and the impact it has on society.
***PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE NOT YET 16***
Some of the texts covered in this L3 course will likely be R16 films! It's technically unlawful for anyone younger than 16 to watch Black Mirror - and while I can't control what you watch at home in your own time, I'm not willing to be an accessory to your crimes whilst at school. Thanks for understanding :)
