In our community and in our HB alone, we have an increasing amount of whānau who identify with one or more cultures from all around the world.
This year as we cannot connect to our world as we usually would, the tamariki will learn about, appreciate and celebrate the uniqueness of the many cultures within our community. It's important to understand our diverse world, and how to understand other people's cultures and world views. It will also help tamariki feel their culture is being valued and appreciated in our community.

We will start by intially focusing on the cultural diversity we have within our own HB by taking advantage of the celebrations and holidays that community members of other cultures celebrate. We will be using our students whānau as our experts, some of whom will come in and teach the tamariki about the various cultures.

For example;
Chinese New Year
Holi Festival
Martisor (Romania)
Carnaval (Brazil)
and many more
Also, Language weeks e.g. Māori language week, Samoan Language Week, Chinese Language Week etc.

We will be learning about these cultures and celebrations in an interwoven way throughout our day to day curriculum e.g. in reading texts, writing, maths strand (mapping), social studies, languages and cultures, art, drama, music, dance.
