The Future is a Nightmare
Link to Course Overview
In this class we will study dystopian texts. Dystopian texts include films and novels that are set in imaginary future worlds run by tyrannical authority figures who are violent and controlling, and who pressure everyone to conform. These texts highlight issues that young people face in their lives as they struggle to make sense of the world and their place in it. All class materials and assessment tasks will be available on Google Classroom, allowing a flexible approach to study for students who cannot attend every class. In class we will discuss some classic dystopian texts like 1984 and Brave New World, as well as some more contemporary films such as Hunger Games and Divergent. However, you will be encouraged to explore the genre further and to select your own texts for assessment tasks.
