Cooking on a budget
There are several factors which influence what you eat. An important one of these is cost. In this block, you will work in a group of six as a “whanau” to plan, budget for and cook meals. Each whanau will be given a budget for the course and will need to plan and cook four or five meals within that budget. In addition to meeting your budget, your meals will need to be nutritionally balanced. You’ll leave the course with a 5-day meal plan - or more if you gather plans from other groups.
Skills: use of google sheets, budgeting, shopping, group work, cooking, cleaning...
We will aim to cook on Wednesday mornings so you can eat your meal for lunch. Monday will be our planning and shopping day.
Very Important Notes:
1) There is a fee of $20 to cover the cost of ingredients. If you need help with paying this, please contact me.
2) Due to the size of the kitchen, there is a limit of 24 students on the course.
3) The kitchen is not equipped so your group will need to be very organised and bring in all you need to cook your meals (pots, pans, chopping boards.. the lot.) We will take a look at what is in the kitchen during the first Monday class.
4) You will need to wear closed toed shoes to cook in the kitchen.
