2021 Term 1: Reading Level 4 : Melva
We are running a complimentary (where possible) literacy program where writing and reading are linked in the same morning session, 3 times a week. Other curriculum areas will also tie into these sessions to create rich learning experiences including our shared Beach ecology inquiry. This will also include independent activities developed through seesaw activities to develop cognitive skills.
We will focus on two or three texts a week. The LA will read with the children and support the modelling of decoding and comprehension strategies.
Students also use independent reading skills, where they apply the strategies they have learned over the week.
Guided reading sessions could also occur using the Sharp Reading strategy to read aloud together and individually share comprehension and then one of four follow up thoughts,
visualisation, links to prior learning, links to text, predictions.
Through these strategies, students will use level 4 skills to:
Integrate sources of information, processes, and strategies confidently to identify, form, and express ideas.
Show an increasing understanding of how texts are shaped for different purposes and audiences.
Show an increasing understanding of ideas within, across, and beyond texts.
Show an increasing understanding of how language features are used for effect within and across texts.
Show an increasing understanding of text structures.
