Yellow Reading T3 2020, HB Pukeko
We'll be learning reading and writing within the context of other curriculum areas and activities, as well as having up to four weekly guided reading sessions using two-three texts per week.
Children reading at yellow will build on their basic reading skills and strategies:
I can read with my eyes but use my finger if I am stuck.
I can re-read to correct my errors and search for info.
I can check the word sounds right, looks right and makes sense.
Read my story again fast and fluently using . , ? !
I can think about the characters, settings, problems so I read for meaning
I can use speech marks and bold print to add expression
I can recognise chunks in words
I can say blends correctly
I can remember some high frequency words
