Why on earth are you looking at a course called EMP?

Good move, though - it's a cool course. EMP usually stands for ElectroMagnetic Pulse (like an electric bomb which will make all of your precious devices unusable), but in this course, it stands for English, Media and Psychology.

This term, we'll be doing a close reading of 'The Long Walk' by Stephen King, which contains some really interesting psychological insights: we'll absolutely continue our ruminations on man's rejection of his own mortality. We will undoubtedly cover a few other short stories, documentaries and short films along the way.

Some time in 3.2, students still in the course will negotiate their own assessment to complete in the latter part of 3.2 and 4.1 - from a range of English, Media and Psychology standards on offer, at whatever NCEA level they're operating at.

Students will be encouraged to participate actively in the class by engaging in discussion and following along with the studied texts. They are expected to, at the bare minimum, listen to their classmates and stay off devices unless asked to use them. The Google Classroom code for this course is tu2iyqv.
