Beyond Emergent Literacy T1 2020

This term we will be following an integrated approach to literacy.

Learners in this group have developed a level of independence in their writing - they can write their alphabet and know their letter sounds, they are developing their phonics skills and can sound out some letters they can hear in words, they can write an increasing amount of Fast Words and can craft short sentences, they are developing their understanding and use of punctuation, they can read texts in the Red-Yellow levels and are working on Fast Words cards 1, 2 or 3.

In our literacy sessions we will be using big books and experiential activities as stimulus for our reading and, particularly, our writing. We will have shared stories relating to the stimuli. We will use the texts to support our knowledge and understanding of punctuation, grammar and other surface features of writing. We will continue to do fast words, phonics and hand writing as a part of our programme, alongside 4 guided reading sessions per week.
