1.1 Tangi (otherwise known as Sound)
What is sound? How does it travel? How do we hear?
What makes something a good sound or a bad sound? What kind of sounds can we make?
In this level 4 science class we will be exploring sound. We will look into the science behind sound, learn how it travels, do some science and stem activities around sound and make some “instruments” to help us understand more about the fascinating notion of sound. We will be asking and answering our own questions, working collaboratively and independently.
During 1.1 we will be making sound, learning how it travels and doing some experiments to learn about these concepts. In 1.2 we will be continue this learning and doing more STEAM activities for a deeper understanding of sound. Both 1.1 and 1.2 will have opportunities to investigate the nature of science and the possibility of doing a short inquiry into sound if desired.
This class is recommended for anyone else interested in learning about the science of sound. Please make sure you bring your own stationary and a science book or folder. No devices necessary.
Achievement Objectives for this course.
Explore, describe, and represent patterns and trends for everyday examples of physical phenomena, such as movement, forces, electricity and magnetism, light, sound, waves, and heat.
Appreciate that science is a way of explaining the world and that science knowledge changes over time.
Build on prior experiences, working together to share and examine their own and others’ knowledge.
