Measurement tools and skills have a variety of uses in everyday life. The ability to use measuring tools, rulers, thermometers, scales, and to estimate with these tools are necessary skills that enable us to understand the world around us. Basic measures of distance and time allow us to calculate speed and acceleration and ultimately tell us how fast we need to project a rocket to allow it reach the Moon!

Over the next few weeks we are going to begin an exploration of the skills for measurement. We will look at how we measure things, how we can compare things measured in different scales, how we calculate simple areas and volumes, and how we can use diagrams to represent problems we need to solve.
