Reading for Pleasure
Reading opens a world of ideas and information enabling you to understand your own world or possibly escape it! I'll be reading 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' with anyone who wants to join me. This mystery story begins with a boy discovering the dead body of the neighbour's dog, Wellington, speared by a garden fork. Those who have already read it or prefer something else can bring a book of their choice. Be prepared to share your thoughts with the class.
We have four, 45 minute literacy sessions a week. While our focus this block is reading, we'll also dedicate time to writing skills including grammar and punctuation.
Bringing a device to record your responses is ideal but if you don't have one, an exercise book and pen will suffice.
Assessment: Ongoing completion of an online or handwritten journal about your book.
Note: this course is aimed at those starting out at level five
