LA Code:
Learning Area:

We will choose from two options: Philosophy of Religion or Philosophy of Mind. The choice will depend on how many students already completed Philosophy of Religion last year.

In 2020 we will do Philosophy of Religion
Philosophy of Religion
Philosophy of Religion is a rich field of intellectual inquiry. Students will start by developing a definition of "God". Students will then examine key arguments for and against the existence of this thing we call "God". The course will culminate in students examining both religious and non-religious answers to two ultimate questions: 1. Why does the universe exist?; and 2. Why is there pain and suffering in the world? Students will need to commit to the entire term.

Philosophy of Mind (not offered in 2020)
What is a mind? Can we build a mind? Can a computer become conscious? These questions are central to the Philosophy of Mind. We will explore these questions (and more) through a tour of some of the leading philosophical theories about the mind.
