In this block, we'll put our digital design knowledge to use and create visual texts. We'll get to discussing what little kids want in their perfect story books, interview some tiny Ao Tawhiti students, take their crazy (but awesome) ideas, and turn them into coherent stories.

This is a pre-NCEA class, and will require a reasonably high level of literacy, as we will be employing English skills like interpreting, simplifying and summarising as well as adding details and flair to writing whilst keeping it clear and concise, in a way that kids will understand and enjoy.

With the writing component (the bones of our stories) finished, we will move onto the design aspect, where we'll be designing our characters and the worlds in which they'll live. This will be the bulk of the class, and will require a passion for design, a willingness to work digitally, and the drive to persevere through learning a new skill.

As this is a digital design course, students will need to have access to a tablet or laptop (not just a mobile phone), and will be expected to arrive to each class with these devices (so if you don't have one of your own, you must organise one through a friend or the office BEFORE arriving to class).

If this all sounds like you, come along and help us make some probably weird and wonderful story books!
