Taking water from rivers to irrigate dairy farms is a controversial issue in Aotearoa New Zealand. In this block we examine how and why dairy farmers need to irrigate. We then look at how people's perspectives and viewpoints represent their deeply held values and beliefs. Whatever our personal views, we will need to put ourselves in other people's shoes in order to understand the issue.

Our topic concludes with a two week assignment where you will be presented with a current water-take dispute in the Hurunui River, north Canterbury. Your task will be to describe the different perspectives and possible solutions.
