Level 2 Reading T1 2019

We are learning comprehension and retell strategies, using journals as a tool for reading and Hilton Ayery SHARP activities to strengthen understanding of text with group discussion. We will use the I THINK THIS MEANS skills focus to unpack meaning, practising strategies such as "I visualise", "The question I think of now" and "This reminds me of".

We will read independently 2-3 times a week, and meet to work on Chapter Chat activities once a week.

Level 2 reading skills:
I can make connections between ideas in the text and my prior knowledge in order to make simple inferences.
I can identify and keep track of ideas and information across longer sections of text and look for connections between ideas and information.
I can evaluate information and ideas within a text in terms of my purpose for reading.
I can identify a writer’s purpose for writing and explain how they identified it, using evidence from the text.
