Orange/Turquoise Reading Group T4 Kea (Kay)

Students reading at Orange should be aware of multiple decoding strategies (ways to work out words they don't know), but are still developing their use and will sometimes need prompting to use the strategies they know. Looking at the pictures for clues becomes a less valid strategy at this level, and more focus should be placed on the ability to sound out and chuck words, and think about what would make sense in context of what we are reading.

Fluency and expression are still developing and students at this level recognise the need to read with fluency when reading aloud, and will be able to do so with multiple readings of a text.

Students reading at this level will generally read with an LA 3-4 times per week.
