This course examines the roots of New York graffiti making links to art movements such as futurism and political movements such as situationism.

We spend the first two weeks here in school learning about this history before spending weeks 3,4,5 every Thursday in town for the whole day. You will need to plan this with your other courses to make sure LAs are okay with your being out. In town we are documenting, recording, writing poetry and interviewing street artists and groups responsible for the brilliant murals. In the last two weeks we are back here at school preparing for the Celebration of Learning either doing our own designs, or producing a powerpoint or presentation on the history of street art and all the cool local art. We will look at Fab 5 Freddy, Taki, Banksy and other well known names.
