Princess Mononoke has been chosen by the wolfpack to launch attacks on a human settlement that is killing the God of the Forest. Lady Eboshi on the other hand, defends her actions by saying that she defends the rights of lepers and women with the money she makes from manufacturing and selling guns. Caught between these two ideologically driven females is Askitaka who is a herder sent by his village to find the reason the forest is dying. Who are you? A forest defender? Someone who believes in the progress of human civilisation? Or someone like Ashitaka, who wanders into the middle of a huge scrap over whether the God of the Forest remains alive, or dies? This film asks many questions and requires us to think about our own beliefs and actions. It causes many debates and reflections.
