In the 19th century a new medium came into existence... Comics! Although we can trace the history back much further, this term we will focus on 20 & 21st century comics and their many variations (Political, Anime, Comic Strips, and Superheroes). How and why have comics become such an important part of art and popular culture? This term we take a close look at a variety of comic styles and build skills around identifying and analysing their content and form. The words content and form will be key vocabulary for this block. Unpacking what they mean and applying that understanding in written/oral form will require a fair amount of reading and writing in and out of class. Knowledge of The Heroes Journey, studied in the previous terms, will be a benefit but not necessary. The term will wrap up with us designing, drawing, and printing our own class comic book with original characters and story. Creativity is key!
