Why do good people sometimes do evil things? In this course we will look at status and power within groups. We will explore different types of power and the way people respond to peer pressure in group situations. In particular we will look at Zimbardo’s famous Stanford Prison Experiment and Milgram’s experiments on obedience. We will also explore the psychology of conformity, social loafing, altruism, and prejudice.
